Parks & Recreation News

In November of 2007 Spokane voters approved a parks and recreation bond measure that will provide funding to replace the city's existing swimming pools, construct a new pool in northwest Spokane, build 10 splash pads in parks that formerly had wading pools, construct the Albi Sports Complex and improve facilities for youth baseball. Construction of some of these facilities will begin in early 2008.

The northwest neighborhood will benefit from a number of these projects. One of the splash pads is being considered for Audubon Park, and a new swimming pool will be built somewhere in northwest Spokane. A sports complex near Albi Stadium has been discussed for many years. Design work will occur early this year, and construction is scheduled to begin in the fall.

The NWNA will be actively involved in the planning process for each of these projects. The Park Board and the City of Spokane hope to gather ideas and suggestions from city residents prior to the beginning of any construction. We encourage anyone who has an interest in participating in these discussions to contact the neighborhood association or the Parks Department.

The NWNA will be holding public meetings to discuss each of these projects. Comments can also be sent via e-mail to spokaneparks@spokaneparks.org or mailed to Spokane Parks & Recreation, City Hall, 7th Floor, 808 West Spokane Falls Blvd, Spokane, WA 99210.

If you send comments, the NWNA would love to hear your opinion. Please send a CC copy to our neighborhood representative - eric.t.armstrong@gmail.com
